iPhone 15 Pro round-up: Everything we know about design, cameras, price and features

Apple is expected to launch new iPhones, likely under the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro branding. The new lineup is expected to include four variants — iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Similar to last year, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely feature better specifications, be it display, processor, or cameras. There may be some common elements across the new iPhones, including a USB-C port for charging. All the new devices will also be eligible for at least four years of major OS updates and ship with iOS 17 out of the box.

However, if we look closely, the last few iterations of iPhone Pros have been more or less similar with some tweaks externally and internally. Will the new iPhone 15 Pro be dramatically different? Appears to be not. But should that be a concern? Certainly, no. Here’s what you need to know.

–Design-wise, we can expect similarities between iPhone 15 Pros and iPhone 14 Pros. That means we can expect similar display sizes – 6.1-inch for iPhone 15 Pro and 6.7-inch for the Pro Max variant. The rear panel may continue to include three cameras stacked in a triangular form. However, a leak suggests that Apple may use titanium chassis for the Pro models, which might offer better durability. A titanium build may also feel more premium.

–Another design change on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max may include an Action button. Apple introduced a similar button on the Apple Watch Ultra last year. While the eventual goal for smartphone manufacturers is to create devices without ports and buttons, this transition might take some time. The Action button is expected to serve as a physical shortcut key for opening specific apps or activating timers, and more.

–Last month, Apple analyst Mark Gurman reported that the Dynamic Island notch will also extend to the regular iPhone 15 this year. The iPhone 15 Pro will feature a new display tech called low-injection pressure over-moulding or LIPO. The LIPO technology was first used in the Apple Watch Series 7 to make that device’s borders thinner and increase the size of the display. In other words, the iPhone 15 Pro may offer a near-bezel-less display.

–Under the hood, Apple may use a 3nm A17 Bionic chip on the iPhone 15 Pro, instead of a 4nm process chipset. The result will be a faster performance with better processing capabilities. However, a big challenge will be to manage the thermals. According to GSMArena citing leaks, the base storage variant will start from 256GB, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Additionally, Apple may also consider offering 2TB of internal storage. Increased storage capacity also means a massive price hike.

–Apple will likely upgrade the cameras with new features and possibly hardware. Apple introduced a 48-megapixel primary camera sensor on the iPhone 14 Pros last year. This year, we might see a periscope camera on the iPhone 15 Pros, though this has been a longstanding rumour. Apple can experiment with some video features to catch up with rivals. This may include a horizontal-lock feature, which Motorola has introduced on its premium Edge and Razr phones. More zooming capabilities may also arrive on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

As mentioned, iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max prices may increase this year. The iPhone 14 Pro launched with a starting price of Rs 1,29,900 and the Pro Max’s starting price was set at Rs 1,39,900. We can expect the starting price to be up by Rs 10,000 in India, at least.
